It’s been long since actor Akshay Kumar’s kicked some serious butt on-screen, and the star reveals that he’s in no hurry to do an out-and-out action film either. Coming from the Action King himself, this may disappoint several of his fans who’re already missing out on a dose of his onscreen kicks and punches.
Akshay however clarifies that he may not be doing an action film, but that doesn’t mean that he’s giving up action! “Action’s in my blood, how can I give it up?” he shoots back. “It’s not an addiction for me, but more like a form of worship and I’ll keep doing it for as long as I can.”
The actor — who’s made comedy his forte of late — does admit though that for now he’s more interested in doing films that dabble in the comic genre. That also explains the slew of entertainers lined up for the star including Farah Khan’s forthcoming film, Desi Boys, Patiala House and Joker among others.
“I am more keen on doing films with wholesome entertainment. But my films, no matter what, the genre will have a certain amount of action involved. It may not be the typical maar-dhaad kinds, but will have some daredevil action sequences for sure,” he says.
Incidentally, while he’s high on comedy, his contemporaries — Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, et al — seem to be gearing up for some heavy-duty action in the coming year. “I won’t comment on their choices, and I’m happy with mine. I’ve always followed my own rules and never done a film because that’s what everyone else is doing,” he says, adding that for him to do a hard-core action film, it has to have something that he hasn’t done on- screen before.
“Jumping off trains, hanging from helicopters, riding on planes, the chase, the drive, speed, thrills, the kicks and chops…what else is left? Playing Spiderman maybe,” he laughs. Well, son Aarav for sure won’t be complaining about this one.
